START A TEAM
If you can't find a team to join near you (see Region 7 Team Directory), why not start a team of your own? A team can be formed with as few as 4 riders or more. A team with 10 to 16 riders is an average size team while many have 6 or 8 riders. USEDA and other drill associations feature Quad teams (four riders). Some very entertaining choreography is possible for small sized teams. A team can use any kind of theme or riding discipline (western or english). You need not be an expert. Novice and advanced riders alike can enjoy the many benefits of the drill team experience.

SO IT'S COMPETITION TIME!
Below are Divisions found in many Drill Team Competitions.

Color Guard Division - Teams of Four
Quad Division - Youth, Theme, Senior, Open
Theme Division - Novice, 4-H,  Youth, Open
Free Style Division - Novice, 4-H, Youth, Open
Green Division - Beginner teams at a trot, no flags
Fun Drill - Manuvers provided prior for nonhorse practice

Always review competition rules carefully for detailed information on each of the divisions you enter.

Competition riders may expect to be judged on their spacing, alignment, timing and coordination.  Horse manners are noted.  Riders need to stay alert and move through their performance in a smooth, controlled manner.  Drill routines are judged for their degree of difficulty and how well they entertain the crowd.  Even the music a team selects can make a difference.

Learn all the judging aspects by purchasing a USEDA Manual.  You not only will find each division's judging criteria but you will find hundereds of drill manuvers to help choreograph a winning routine.
